Brighton became a popular tourist destination in the eighteenth century, although people have been living in the town since before the Domesday Book was created. With the arrival of the railway into this seaside resort in 1841 Londoners would travel down to Brighton for a day. However, day trips although popular it was soon apparent that many people enjoyed staying for weeks at a time as well. Brighton has kept up with the times and is still a popular destination for conferences, weekend breaks and longer holidays.
This is why there are so many places for one to stay in. Anything from large conference hotels, through boutique hotels and plenty of smaller, family run, establishments. Whatever your budget, you'll find good quality accomodation in the town. Below we look at just some of the accommodation available in this seaside resort today.
1. Ambassador – This four star bed and breakfast can be found in New Steine in the centre of Brighton and is situated just a few minutes' walk from the beach and all that this seaside resort has to offer. It was originally a townhouse but was converted some time ago into accommodation for paying guests but the rooms are well appointed and comfortable.
2. Marine View Hotel – This is conveniently located in the centre of the town and its rooms look out over Garden Square, Brighton Pier and the English Channel. The rooms are stylishly decorated and offer all kinds of amenities one would expect from a good quality hotel today.
3. The Grand – This hotel is the most famous of all hotels in Brighton and is right in the middle of the buildings that are located on the seafront. Certainly if you are looking for somewhere to stay that speaks of opulence and luxury this is the hotel to spend time in. Originally opened in 1864 when every one of the 300 rooms were booked it has seen much happen between its walls since then.
The hotel became prominent around the world in 1984 after a failed assassination attempt was made on the life of then prime minister of England, Margaret Thatcher. Although severely damaged by the bomb blast it was restored to its former glory and reopened its doors to guests once more in 1986. The hotel's owners took the opportunity to modernize the rooms during this refurbishment.
4. Cecil House Hotel – This isn't as lavish as The Grand but Cecil House offers a good selection of reasonably priced rooms. It looks out over Brighton's West Pier and in a matter of minutes you can be strolling along this seaside's famous Pebble Beach if you wish. All rooms have en-suite facilities and 8 of the rooms look out towards the sea whilst the other 4 look down over a French church which is hidden away in the streets behind.
5. Sea Spray – If you're looking for a romantic weekend away or a special treat for yourself, the Sea Spray should be on your shortlist. This is the town's leading luxury themed boutique hotel where the rooms are designed with opulence and decadence in mind. Because of its location on Brighton's seafront it offers wonderful views of the pier and sea.
